SAT®Ⅰ란?

미국의 대학수학능력시험(SAT®: Scholastic Assessment Test)이 2005년 3월부터 난이도를 크게 올리는 방향으로 개편 되었는데 글쓰기 능력을 강조하기 위해 에세이(Writing) 시험을 추가하고 비판적 독해(Critical Reading)를 강조하는 한편 비교적 평이한 기존의 수학 시험에 고등수학인 Algebra II까지 포함시켰다.

SAT® 문제는 학생의 쓰기와 읽기, 그리고 연산 능력이 얼마나 대학이 요구하는 수준에 도달했는지를 묻고 있다. 미국이 이처럼 SAT®를 대대적으로 개정하게 된 목적은 기존시험이 일반적인 사고능력을 평가하는 적성검사라는 기본적인 목적에 치중한 나머지 변별력을 잃었다는 지적 때문이다.

SAT® 문제 출제 및 평가 등을 관장하는 College Board의 케스톤 카폴톤 회장은 "OLD SAT®가 기출 문제 반복 학습만으로 고득점을 얻을 수 있다는 지적이 많아 유추문제(Analogies)를 없애고 대학 수업을 듣는 데 필요한 고등연산능력과 독해, 작문력을 측정하는 문제를 강화했다."고 설명했다.

총점이 1600점에서 작문시험이 추가됨에 따라 2400점(Writing: 200-800,Critical Reading: 200-800, Math: 200-800)으로 변경되고, 시험시간 역시 총 3시간에서 3시간 35분(Writing: 60분, Critical Reading: 70분, Math: 70분, Dummy: 25분)으로 변경되었다.

- 마포구 공덕동에 위치한 미국공보원소속 한미교육위원단 (일명 Fullbright사무국) 에서 SAT Bulletin 을 수령한다.

- Bulletin 내에 있는 신청서를 안내에 따라 꼼꼼히 기재한다.
- 한미은행을 방문하여 전신환율을 확인한다. (한미은행 전신환율만 인정)
- 우체국에 가서 한미은행에서 확인한 전신환율로 응시료를 전신환증서로 발행
- 작성한 신청서와 전신환증서를 동봉하여 SAT® College Board 로 송부한다

인터넷접수

- 인터넷 회원가입을 한다.

SAT®Ⅱ란?

SAT® II (Subject Test)는 SAT® 시험이 현재 시행되는 SAT® I/II 형태로 바뀌기 이전까지 College Board Achievement Test(CBAT or AT)라고 불리던 대입 수능 시험의 일종으로 수험생들에게 생소한 것은 아니다. SAT® I 시험과 달리 학교에서 배우는 학과목 중에서 특정 과목을 선정하여 이 subject에 관한 knowledge 또는 skill을 측정하고 또한 배운 내용들을 어떻게 실제로 적용하는가 하는 능력을 측정하는 시험이다. SAT® II는 특정 과목에 대한 지식과 적용 능력을 측정하는 시험으로 1시간 동안 치러진다.

과목은 총 20과목으로 각 학교마다 요구하는 것이 다르므로 진학을 희망하는 학교에 문의 한 후에 알아보고 과목을 선택해야 한다. SAT® II는 하루에 최대 3과목까지 응시할 수 있으며, 아래 시험 일정표에 볼 수 있듯이 SAT® I과 같은 날 실시하지만 동시에 볼 수 없다. 시험 시간은 60분 이다.

대부분의 명문대학(UC계열 포함)에서 2-3개의 과목을 기본적으로 요구한다. 이 추가 과목은 대학측에서 지정할 수도 있다.
